If you have not yet decided on a new heating
system to install in your new construction or to replace your outdated furnace, Nu-Way can help you understand the benefits of hydronic radiant floor heat. A radiant floor heat system helps to heat the objects and people in each room rather than the air. A radiant in-floor heat system uses water from a boiler system — such as the top-rated Veissman boiler — to circulate heated water throughout each room as needed. The Nu-Way radiant floor heating specialists will guide you through each step — from making your decision about the right system, and pricing the products you need, through installing your radiant system. If you are considering radiant heat in your cement or wood floor, the Nu-Way radiant floor heating specialists have the expertise to help you or your hydronic service professional with all the necessary materials to do the job right.
How Radiant Floor Heating Systems Work
A radiant heat floor system works through special tubing embedded in a concrete foundation or in a thin concrete mixture on top of a wood-framed floor. Heated water flows through this tubing, warming the thermal mass of the concrete. Unlike typical home forced-air systems, which produce uneven heat with the highest air temperatures near the ceilings, radiant floor heating puts the heat in the floor under your feet, warming a room gradually with far fewer drafts. Hydronic radiant floor heat provides the highest level of comfort with very good energy efficiency, saving you from high fuel bills. The warm water circulated through the tubing in a radiant floor may come from solar collectors, water heaters, demand water heaters, wood stoves, or heat pumps.

Hydronic Heating Systems Are Healthy
There are many health benefits associated with in-floor radiant heating systems, including these:
- Cleaner air. No circulation of dirty air. Allergens, dander, and dust won't be blown around or circulated throughout your home.
- No carbon monoxide. The ignition system is separate from the air systems.
- Comfort. Hydronic heating delivers consistent, steady heat all winter long. It is a desirable warm feet, cool head environment.
- Quieter. No fans or blowers are required for hydronic heating systems.
- Air that’s more moist. Less dry air and less dust make for easier breathing.
Hydronic Heating Systems Save Costs and Add Value
Radiant heating systems provide cost advantages, as well as health benefits, including these:
- Less heat loss. Only objects are heated, not the air, so less heat is wasted.
- Room-by-room control. There is no need to heat rooms that are not being used.
- Efficiency. Hydronic heating is 10 to 30% more efficient than traditional forced air systems.
- Lots of hot water. With the addition of a hot water maker to the system, an almost endless supply of hot water is available for high-demand applications such as multiple-head showers and large whirlpool tubs.
- Efficiency. Because you’re in direct contact with the heat source, you’re comfortable at a lower temperature setting. The result is energy savings between 10 and 30% over traditional forced-air heating systems.
- Versatility. Hydronic heating systems can be installed in new construction and in existing homes, over wood or concrete floors. These systems are easy to connect for new additions or for outside applications.
- Better heat retention. Less heat is lost when you open a door or window. There is also less heat lost through walls and ceilings.
- Zoning ability. Radiant floor heating systems provide room-to-room temperature control, allowing you, the homeowner, to heat only the rooms you’re using.
- Adds value to your home. Installing radiant floor heating systems in slab or basement applications turns cold, damp areas into warm, cozy living spaces.
Hydronic Heating Systems Are Versatile
Radiant in-floor heating systems can be installed in virtually any floor.
- Any floor base. In wood frame construction, in-floor radiant heating systems climate panel systems are perfect over either wood or concrete subfloors.
- Any floor covering. Radiant floor heating systems can be used with just about any type of floor covering, including hardwood, tile, vinyl, or carpeting.
- Easier to maintain. There are no filters or ducts to clean.
- Decorating freedom. With in-floor radiant heating, there no vents, radiators, or cold air returns. You can put the furniture where you want to.
